The beaches of El Salvador are well-known among surfers. Some say that they are the best surf spots in Central America. After hearing that, I decided to take my family there to see what it was all about. Plus, they are not too far away from the Guatemalan border.
We have since been to El Salvador a couple of times. It is a fun place to visit on a long weekend. During those trips we have visited a few restaurants and a few stood out. Most of them aren’t fancy, but the food and service make up for it.
It might be the smallest country in Central America, but its food forms a big impression. From seafood to traditional pupusa and fabulous Mexican and international-style dishes, El Salvador does well when it comes to satisfying taste buds. Read on and have a look at my picks for the top 10 restaurants in El Salvador; you could add them to your exploration list!

1. Hola Betos Restaurant
Location: Boulevard Costa del Sol, La Herradura 1606 El Salvador
This is a gorgeous, elegant place with an open-air dining area from where you get amazing views, especially at sunset. They focus on serving dishes that involve some kind of seafood and delicious drinks made out of fruits El Salvador has to offer.
The ones we got to taste were delicious. But there are also other options such as pizza for those who aren’t fans of seafood.
The service is really good but keep in mind that your food might take some time to be ready.
Tip: Try to get there early because parking can be an issue once the restaurant starts to get full.

2. Sharky’s Restaurant
Location: KM 44 Carretera del Litoral, Playa El Sunzal, El Salvador

This is a small open-air restaurant with no A/C, run by the owner. Their service is extremely friendly. The food is delicious, beautifully presented, and at a good price for what you get. Their menu has options such as fish, burgers, and pizza.
If you go to the second floor you will be eating in the middle of tree branches and sometimes even birds. It is definitely a place where I could spend hours just enjoying the sounds of nature, a good book, and a smoothie.
Because of its location, it might be hard to find but keep looking, you will be glad you did.

This is another elegant place where you get to eat while enjoying gorgeous views of the sea. It is especially good for romantic dinners because of the setup.
On their menu, you can find Mexican and international-style dishes and lots of seafood. If you are lucky, you might even be able to enjoy some live music in time.
The food was really tasty and the service was friendly. The price is definitely right.

4. La Casa de Frida Restaurant
Location: La Libertad, El Salvador

This restaurant is located in El Zonte. Here you will find a varied menu that also makes emphasis on seafood. There is good reason for making them their specialty, most of their dishes with seafood as the main ingredient are the best.
The place is beautiful. Tables are laid out in the middle of a garden and covered by palm trees, all of which are only meters away from the beach, providing great views and a relaxing atmosphere.
5. Los Balcones Restaurant
Location: RN-5, El Salvador
This spot might have a surprising location – inside the Quality Hotel Real near the airport – but don’t let that fool you.
It’s a San Salvador favorite! Go for their breakfast buffet and experience the flavors of a true Salvadoran feast.
The menu is huge, so there are a number of options for every taste, especially for peaky eaters. You can try out pupusas, fried plantains, and tons of delicious local dishes. The variety, the quality, and the super-attentive staff make it worth a visit.
6. Rustico Bistro
Location: Av. Las Magnolias, San Salvador, El Salvador
At a glance, I loved the environment; I was neat, and the staff was friendly. This is what a traveler like mine appreciates most when I’m traveling with my family.
However, the main reason why this restaurant made it to this list was obviously its food, which is spectacular and has a great selection.
Their juicy burgers are made with fresh ingredients and those buns? Baked in-house. They’ve got hot dogs, pulled pork, and plenty of American-style sides too. Cap it off with a decadent dessert and a cold beer for the perfect comfort food experience. They had outdoor sitting, too, that’s comfortable when the weather is nice.

7. Los Tacos de Paco
Location: Av. Los Andes. Col. Miramonte, San Salvador, El Salvador
Mexican food is my weakness, so when I saw that Los Tacos de Paco was on my list, I knew it was going to be a good day. The restaurant is casual and brightly colored and has some of the best authentic Mexican food in the city.
Their tacos are the real deal, and they are scrumptiously bursting with flavor. Plus, the energetic atmosphere feels like a true Mexican cantina. They’ve expanded over the years, so you’ll find locations all over San Salvador.
8. Comedor Pupusería La Ceiba
Location: Santa Rosa de Lima, El Salvador
Craving pupusas? This unassuming spot is a local favorite! Pupusas – thick corn tortillas stuffed with everything from cheese to beans to meat – are the quintessential Salvadoran dish.
La Ceiba serves them up fresh and flavorful, just how they should be. If you’re new to pupusas, this is the perfect place to get hooked.

9. Panadería Latino
Location: Calle Delgado, San Salvador, El Salvador
Okay, not technically a restaurant, but seriously, you can’t leave El Salvador without sampling their sweet pollo encebollado (chicken with sticky sweet onions).
And it’s known for it’s sweet bread, which is just the thing to go with that cup of coffee in the morning. This bakery is renowned for its freshly baked goods that embody the essence of Salvadoran comfort food.

Conclusion – The Bottom Line!
In conclusion, El Salvador offers a diverse culinary scene that tantalizes taste buds with its seafood, pupusas, and international flavors. All the El Salvador restaurants that I have reviewed above have great food, which is very tasty and well-made.
It was just on point. I mean, there was nothing I could complain about. They did a good job with the presentation too, and the service was awesome. In case you are ever in the area, you can try the steak, which is an excellent choice.
